Positive Reviews
positive:
In the heart of the Old Town
It was undoubtedly the hotel's great central location that most impressed guests. They had naturally come to Bruges for a bit of history, and to soak up the atmosphere of the charming streets and canals, so they were very happy to be staying right in the very heart of the Old Town.
positive:
Excellent value for money
Again and again guests expressed their astonishment at the great room-rate they got. Given the comfortable accommodation, and terrific central location, they could scarcely believe what they paid and were unanimous in saying they received excellent value for money.
positive:
Sweets and chocolates
Many guests reported that the hotel's staff puts out jars of sweets and chocolates, free for guests, at a number of strategic points around the hotel. They found it a small, but very thoughtful, gesture and were clearly delighted.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Not a luxury hotel
Firstly, it has to be said that the reviews of Grand du Sablon were simply overwhelmingly positive. It was nearly impossible to find negative reviews. One point raised was that the name might be a little misleading. Guests say it is a great hotel, and very good value, but it is not grand in the sense of being luxurious.
negative:
Rooms not well soundproofed
A couple of guests mentioned that the walls seem to be “paper thin”, and that sound tends to travel through them at will. As a result, their sleep quality could be determined by how loud or considerate their neighbouring guests were.
negative:
Parking some distance away
A few motorists mentioned that, while the hotel does have its own secure parking, it is some distance away - about five minutes on foot. This made using one's car regularly very awkward.
