Positive Reviews
positive:
Canal-side location, easy walking distances.
Those who stayed enjoyed Kooyk’s central Amsterdam location, which is found right on a canal, minutes from Leidseplein, in walking distance of Anne Frank Museum, museums and the Heineken Factory, and has handy public transport options.
positive:
All the basics you need.
Guests found the rooms to be basic, but clean and offering everything needed for a base and somewhere to sleep. The free Wi-Fi and luggage storage were also thought to be handy.
positive:
Good buffet breakfast and welcome.
You will find the buffet breakfast to offer a wide selection of fare for a good start to the day, while the staff was generally found to be warm and friendly, even if a few people said staff members were occasionally a little brusque.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Small shared facilities.
Be aware that Kooyk’s shared bathroom, toilet and shower facilities are fairly small, so if you are someone who prefers more space and privacy, make sure to book an en-suite room.
negative:
Steep Dutch stairs.
As is often the case in Amsterdam, there is no lift in this hotel, and those with mobility issues, lots of luggage or a penchant to over-party may find the steep stairs too much.
negative:
Double beds, air conditioning, small rooms.
A few guests also mentioned that the double beds are made up of two single mattresses, the rooms do not have air conditioning, and some rooms were considered to be rather small — factors you should weigh up against the reasonable prices offered here.
