About Marlborough Hotel
Situated in an enviable position right on the seafront, Marlborough Hotel offers classic British seaside accommodation for guests looking for a well deserved break.
The rooms are simply furnished, and feature en-suite bathrooms with hairdryer, TV’s with freeview channels, clock-radios, telephones and tea/coffee stations.
Reception is on hand and can provide local information. There is a small lobby lounge where guests are welcome to relax and access the Wi-Fi system, which is available in the public areas.
The Rattan restaurant overlooks the sea, serves British cuisine with pride, and is open for all three meals.
The main attraction is perhaps the promenade and beach right out front. Golfers will find the Felixstowe Golf Club two miles from Marlborough, while bird watchers will not want to miss the Landguard Bird Observatory to record some good sightings.
Positive Reviews
positive:
Good for a budget stay
While almost all guests conceded that the hotel had some fairly major issues, some went on to add that the room-rates were especially competitive compared to others area hotels. As a result they said that they considered it a pure budget hotel, and so felt a lot better about its shortcomings.
positive:
Great beachfront location
This was certainly what guests most appreciated about their stay at Marlborough. The hotel is directly on the seaside promenade, and guests could walk out onto the beach or to other locations along the promenade, very easily.
positive:
Excellent Sunday carvery
While the food at the restaurant did receive mixed reviews in general, the Sunday carvery seems to have been a hit with most guests. It was described as very generous, and served by respectful and helpful staff.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Quite rough around the edges
This was by far the most common, and most serious, complaint. Many guests state quite bluntly that the hotel looks shabby. It has clearly not been renovated in a very long time and many were unhappy with the atmosphere this lack of vitality created.
negative:
Exceptionally small lift
When using the lift, guests could be mistaken for thinking they had somehow been transported to Paris. The lift was described as tiny, perhaps good enough for two people without luggage. Claustrophobic guests will have to resign themselves to using the stairs.
negative:
Very poor Wi-Fi
It was pretty much impossible to find a good word written about the Wi-Fi. Guests were unanimous in saying that the system simply couldn't handle what it was being asked to do. As a result, it was very slow an unreliable. Guests who have an urgent need for connectivity may have to rely on their own mobile data plans.
