Positive Reviews
positive:
Handy location offers the best of everything
Many guests loved the fact that this hotel is set back a little from the busy sea front yet is still within a very easy walk of most of the town's main sights and attractions. Having a tram stop so close by (five minutes' walk) was also considered a big plus.
positive:
Outstanding customer service
A traditional hotel where the manager greets guests with a smile every morning and the staff make an effort to remember every visitor's name; it's no wonder the vast majority of guests have been thoroughly impressed by the efforts of the small army of highly attentive employees working here.
positive:
Top-notch meals consistently hit the spot
Numerous visitors have given the food here glowing reviews. Both the cooked breakfasts and the evening meal options consistently earn very high praise.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Accommodations are quite dated
A great many guests remarked that the accommodations here look like they're in need of a pretty urgent revamp. Other areas of the hotel have received upgrades recently so hopefully the guest rooms will soon get the attention they clearly require.
negative:
Lifts are incredibly slow
It is fair to say very few visitors have been impressed by the almost comically slow speed of the lifts in this hotel. Evidently, walking up/down the stairs is a far quicker option.
negative:
Creaky floorboards can be disturbing
A number of guests have observed that the floorboards - particularly those on the upper floors - have a tendency to creak like something out of an old horror film. Not what you need when you're trying to get to sleep!
