About The Old School Bed & Breakfast

The Old School Bed & Breakfast is a beautifully presented Victorian building which was used as a school until 1934. It is located in the peaceful and picturesque village of Sampford Brett in West Somerset. We are situated in the very heart of this quiet, lovely Somerset village. The School was built in 1867 by its benefactor Sir Alexander Acland-Hood and opened on 20 April 1868 with 53 pupils. It closed as a school in 1934 with just 7 children on the roll. With the exception of a brief time open as a school in WW2 for evacuated children from Essex, it has been a residential property since. Nearby we have the historic town of Watchet with its harbour and good selection of pubs, the medieval town of Dunster with its famous ancient castle, cafes, restaurants and shops. Also within a short distance is the wedding venue of St Audries.The West Somerset heritage railway passes within a few hundred metres of our B&B on its 25mile journey from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead.
