Since May 16th 1929 the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences rewards professionals from the world of film with the most prestigious award in this genre: The Oscar. Although the location has changed over the years, originally the ceremony was held in the Hotel Roosevelt in Hollywood and moved several times until it reached its current destination at the Kodak Theater, the little handcrafted man has not. Around 25 awards are given out by the Academy every year, as well as some special awards like the Academy Award of Merit, a Honorary Award and others. The red-carpet event, which is broadcast via TV in most countries of the world, is strictly by invitation only, but you might still like to join the thousands of spectators outside of the venue for some serious “star” gazing when it is time again to announce: And the Oscar goes to….
