Le Parc des Félins (Lumigny-Nesles-Ormeaux, France)
Parc des Félins is a zoo in Lumigny-Nesles-Ormeaux, a commune of three villages in Seine-et-Marne. The zoo is devoted to species of the cat family, the only one of its kind in Europe. They range from the tiny sand cats to lions and tigers. 25 of the 36 species of cats in the world are represented here. The animals, over 500, live in large enclosures, which reproduce their natural habitats, and are bred and protected as some species are now endangered. The enclosures are grouped into the four continents in which cats live – Europe, Africa, Asia, and America. Visitors are recommended to allow 3 hours. Parking is free and the zoo is about 5 kilometres from the N4. Pushchairs, wheelchairs and binoculars can be hired, and there is a shop. For refreshments the park offers a restaurant, snack-bar, and two picnic areas, one indoor and one outdoors. No pets allowed. Opening times vary throughout the year and are on the website, where there is also a warning that the park may close during very windy or icy weather.
