    Positive Reviews

    positive:

    All good in the rooms.

Nicely designed and decorated; rooms are welcoming and comfortable. They are also extremely clean and there's a luxurious roll-top bath as well as a shower.

    positive:

    A glorious Peak District location.

Miles away from anywhere … and yet easily reached from cities such as Sheffield and Manchester. This is a great getaway for those who just want a break away from it all, as well as for the more energetic bikers, climbers and walkers.

    positive:

    A pub grub winner.

The food is good and breakfast will ‘set you up' for the day ahead. Later, there's a good menu choice and the overall feeling is that what is offered is, for real quality, in excess of the ‘pub grub' norm.

    Negative Reviews

    negative:

Over-priced … but not over fed

The food, generally, is very good, but the portions are a bit on the mean side and don't reflect the magnitude of the price. Even the ‘veg' is limited ... at these prices, there should be a ready option for more. Service can be slow, verging on the static and enquiries as to the reason for excessive delays, remain unresolved. If you think: "surely, surly staff is a thing of the past" … think again!

    negative:

    Needs more emphasis on comfort.

There are no easy chairs in the bar/dining area, so there's nowhere to relax. Maybe they don't want you to linger longer than is necessary? Beds in the room follow this trend and could do with some replacing.

    negative:

    Define a ‘Kids' Menu'

This is an area that attracts droves of families, so you'd expect some effort to be made to cater for their dining requirements. Here, the children's menu consists of half portions of what is served to adults. Not acceptable.
