Alton Towers (Alton, United Kingdom)
At Alton Towers, A World of Adventure Awaits
With more than two million visitors per annum, there’s no place quite like Alton Towers to get the adrenaline going. In fact, the park’s highest attendance was a little more than four million in 1999, making it the second most visited park in Europe. But whatever you do, don’t think this fun destination is only for thrill seekers, there’s something for everyone. And while heaps of Alton Tower rides are designed especially for kids, there’s also Alton Towers Water Park that extends indoors and outdoors with shopping, dining, entertainment, and a whole lot more.
Where do You Start at Alton Towers?
With so many things to do and places to see, it’s probably a good idea to make a list of favourites before you start. How about indulging in a range of spoils at Alton Towers Spa, located within the vibrant Alton Towers Hotel? Whether you spend an hour or an entire day, a blissful oasis of relaxing treatments comes standard. While you unwind, the kids can play miniature-golf at one of the two nine-hole courses. They’re themed around the most famous resort rides and lined with fun obstacles from beginning to end. However, the major attraction at Alton Towers Resort is the larger-than-life rollercoasters – ten of them. If you’re brave, you may want to try Oblivion and Th13teen at Alton Towers, considered to be two of the most frightening roller coaster rides in the park. If scary is what you’re looking for, try to arrange your visit at the end of October. The Scarefest festival means you get to choose: Do I conquer my rides in the light, or do I dare conquer them in the dark?
Much calmer and bursting with adventure is CBeebies Land, ideal for families with toddlers. Whether you’re staying over at CBeebies Hotel for a while, or you’ve got a day pass, either way, you can count on music and stories to fill the air. To end the season off in November, Ultimate Fireworks Spectacular provides a dazzling display of colour and sound that will delight the senses and leave lasting memories.
Wine, Dine, and Sleep at Alton Towers
You’re never too far away to get stuck into something scrumptious. For a super-fun evening try Rollercoaster Restaurant. It’s a family-friendly eatery that’s open to the public whether you’re staying over at Alton Towers or not. You can enjoy a meal right below the roller coaster tracks if you don’t mind the shrieks coming from above. If that sounds a little too noisy, there are always hot dogs and waffles at Wafflemeister, ice-cream at Nitrogenie, and mouth-watering donuts and cappuccino at the Coffee Lounge. At the end of an unforgettable day, the hotels in and near Alton Towers provides a peaceful retreat, a place to relax and unwind, and re-energise for the days that follow. If you fancy a Caribbean-style hotel that overlooks the water park, then Splash Landings is a great option. The White Hart on the other hand is a few minutes’ drive from the resort, and offers a pub-like atmosphere and a free breakfast. Wherever you do decide to stay, one thing’s for sure, you’re bound to need a vacation once all the fun at Alton Towers comes to an end.
