Everything in Banff within walking distance
Several guests comment on the central position of the hotel, and how it meant that they could easily walk to anywhere they wanted to go in the village.
Located in the very heart of Banff, the High Country Inn is a family-run establishment offering guests homely accommodation in the spectacular Canadian Rockies. The 70 rooms are modern and well furnished, and feature air conditioning and heating with in-room temperature control, mini-fridges, tea/coffee stations, TV with cable stations and telephones with free local calls. Most rooms have a private balcony, and in-room Wi-Fi is free. The High Country Inn’s reception is open 24 hours and can arrange many exciting tours and activities. There is an indoor pool with lovely outlook onto the Douglass Firs, and of course on-site parking is free. The in-house Ticino Restaurant serves Swiss-Italian cuisine that is a great hit among the local population. The town of Banff is eminently walkable, while skiers and boarders will want to head to Lake Louise, 38 miles to the west. Calgary Airport is a 1 ½ hour drive away.

Of course the guests come to view the Rockies, and many guests found that they didn't even need to leave their rooms for that view. It seems that the hotel is designed to take full advantage of the setting, and most of the guest rooms have Rocky Mountain views.
While the pool is also appreciated by the guests, it seems it is the hot tub and sauna that they most enjoy, especially after a day skiing or boarding in some pretty cold temperatures.
There was much confusion surrounding breakfast in early 2016. The High Country Inn had until then been offering a free deluxe continental breakfast for some time before then. It seems the policy has changed and several guests were disappointed to have no breakfast included, or even available, in early 2016. It seems that breakfast will become available again, but no dates have been set as of February 2016.
The underground parking has been described as both very cramped and as having insufficient bays. Guests with SUV's or trucks, especially, had a hard time manoeuvring and fitting into the parking bays.
Many guests complain of the hotel being a fairly noisy environment. The problem seemed to be both that they were disturbed by noise when trying to sleep in their rooms, and more generally that the public areas of the hotel were just loud.
