    Arena of Nimes (Nîmes, France)

Built in 27 B.C., the Arena of Nimes was originally used as an amphitheatre by the Romans, but has been remodeled in 1863 into a bullring. The building itself is oval in shape and measures 133m in length and 101m in width. Its 34 rows of seats offer a capacity for 16300 spectators and since 1989 it can be covered and also offers a heating system. Apart from being a historical site, the Arena of Nimes is still used twice a year for bullfights, as well as for open-air concerts and other events during the summer months. In front of the arena the remnants of a Roman bath can be viewed free of charge. The entrance fee includes a tour via audioguide, discovery book for children and there is also a souvenir shop in the arcades.
