Brick Lane Market (London, United Kingdom)

Brick Lane Market is a Sunday market that has its origins dating back to the 17th century when it established itself as an area where fruit and vegetable was sold. Since its early days it has now evolved into a market that sells everything from bric a brac, books, records, clothes, food, household goods, crafts, jewellery, DIY goods and antiques. Every week thousands of bargain hunters descend here. Brick Lane is located in the Tower Hamlets district of London’s East End and is an area with a high Bangladeshi community. The area is known locally as “Banglatown”, there is also a large Jewish community. Historically this was an area frequented by Jack the Ripper and has been the location of several notorious murders. The market is held on the northern end of Brick Lane and extends along Cheshire Street. Brick Lane Market is similar to the market held at nearby Petticoat Lane although this one is on a smaller scale. It takes place every Sunday from 8am and continues until around 2pm.
