The Promenade Park is located along the shores of the river Blackwater at Maldon. Since 1895 it offers recreational facilities for locals and visitors alike. Following an extensive make-over in recent years it is now home to a large children’s playground with a galleon and fort next to the older, traditional play area where swings and slides and a maze can be found. One of the most popular attractions of the park for children during summer months is arguably the water splash park where little one’s can cool down for a small fee (expect long queues on hot days, especially during the summer holidays) . The old salt-water lake has been replaced with an ornamental lake which is popular with ducks and swans. Another lake offers possibilities for model boating and crabbing, the annually held Maldon Crabbing Competition is held here. Further amenities include a BMX and skateboard area, tree trail, formal gardens, tennis, cricket, and football pitches. Refreshments can be bought from the many food stalls and cafes within the park and parking facilities can be found on-site against a small fee.
