Alexandra Park (Glasgow, United Kingdom)

Alexandra Park in the East End of Glasgow was established in 1870 and named after Princess Alexandra wife of the future King Edward VII. It is about three miles from Glasgow city centre. It covers an area of 104 acres and is open daily from dawn till dusk. The main pedestrian entrance to the park is from Alexandra Parade through the ornamental gates, which lead to formal flowerbeds and a small rose garden. There are several features of interest in the park including the Walter MacFarlane Saracen Fountain which towers 40ft and was gifted to the City after the 1901 International Exhibition. It has been recently refurbished in 2000 to its former glory. The park also has a duck pond, bowling green, golf course, children’s play area, an orienteering course and a picnic area. There are public toilets located within the park.
