Frankfurt Zoo was founded in 1858 and is the second oldest zoo in Germany. It contains over 5,000 animals comprising of more than 600 different species. The zoo participates in an extensive conservation programme and around 150 species that are housed here are on the list of endangered species list. These animals include maned wolf, gorilla, bush dog, rhinoceros iguana, whilst endangered birds that can be found at the zoo include sun bittern and Socorro dove. Frankfurt Zoo is open daily throughout the year with the exception of a few public holidays. During the summer it is open from 9am until 7pm and during the winter from 9am until 5pm. The standard adult admission price is 8 Euros, entry for children under 6 years old is free.
