St Peter & St Paul (Burgh Castle, United Kingdom)

St Peter & St Paul is located directly next to one of the best preserved of a series of Roman Saxon Shore Forts in the small village Burgh Castle and along the River Waveney. It is believed that the church dates back to 633 AD when St Fursey, an Irish monk who had dedicated his life to establish Christianity throughout the British Isles, arrived in the area and founded a monastery on the grounds of the abandoned Roman fortress. Parts of the church as it can be seen today date back to the 10th and 14th century. The church is surrounded by a nature preserve and ample parking facilities can be found just a short walk from the entrance. St Peter & St Paul is open daily and there is no entrance fee; a small donation would be most appreciated. For opening hours and information about services in the church please visit the website.
